SERGIO ALBIAC: THREE GENERATIVE VIDEO PORTRAITS
In conjunction with Andy Warhol: Silver Clouds
THU SEP 12 – SUN OCT 20
Town Hall Video Wall
Including a commissioned portrait of First Lady Michelle Obama
Spanish visual artist Sergio Albiac uses computer code as one of his artistic mediums. He writes his own computer programs that create visual results in the form of still images or video. The video portraits Albiac creates use an innovative technique that he has developed called “generative video painting.” This technique uses regions of video content to effectively represent or “paint” heterogeneous regions of the image. Both the partial content of the videos and the whole image are fully visible at the same time, widening the possibilities to deliver meaning in a contemporary aesthetic language. In response to Warhol’s signature portraiture, Artisphere will present three works by Albiac. Two are previously created pieces—Living Icon based on Marilyn Monroe and Content is Queen based on Queen Elizabeth II. Commissioned by Artisphere, the third work, Michelle, is based on First Lady Michelle Obama and suggests a dialogue between the public side of First Lady (her celebrity side) and a generic reference to the human inner world, far away from the public scrutiny, often structured by daily routines and simple things.
