Silent Film with Live Musical Accompaniment

SAT OCT 26 / 8PM
Dome Theatre

Max Shreck’s legendary 1922 silent-film Nosferatu featured the world’s first cinematic vampire, Count Orlok. This Halloween season, travel into the ethereal Transylvanian mountains where you will experience the full horror of the film accompanied by Not So Silent Cinema’s Klezmer quintet as they blend a haunting tapestry of Klezmer motifs, Gypsy grooves, avant-garde textures, and classic horror effects. A clarinet moans hauntingly as the vampire rises from his coffin, an accordion swells as our protagonist peers through a dark doorway, a piano crashes, violins shriek, and lots of necks are bitten! Equal doses of suspense and classic horror-camp make it just as fun as it is scary.

The score for the film was written by Boston composer Brendan Cooney to be performed live by some of Philadelphia’s finest musicians from the Klezmer, Balkan, jazz, tango, and classical scenes. This year marks the quintet’s fourth annual Halloween tour which has packed houses at theatres across the country like the American Film Institute, Brattle Theatre, Shalin Liu Performance Center, 92YTribeca, and more. With a live band accompanying this classic horror film, this is a Halloween event not to be missed!
