Photo 11 provides DC-area audiences the opportunity to engage with photographs by 18 artists from the Mid-Atlantic region and serves as a forum for regional photographers to showcase and sell their work.

As part of the final jurying process, Maddox selected the work of 18 photographers from across the Mid-Atlantic—Daniel Afzal (Alexandria, Virginia), Roberto Bocci (Arlington, VA), Michael Borek (Bethesda, MD), Everitt Clark (Alexandria, VA), Catherine Day (McClean, VA),  Stacey Evans (Charlottesville, VA),  Helen Glazer (Owings Mills, MD), Avi Gupta (DC), Barbara Johnson (DC), Mark Parascandola (DC), Lorne Peterson (Arlington, VA), Caitlin Price (DC), Sandra Rottmann (DC), Sofia Silva (Baltimore, MD), Arista Slater-Sandoval (DC), Amy Carmichael Smith (Silver Spring, MD), D. B. Stovall (Rockville, Maryland) and jordan swartz (DC).

Jordan Swartz and Caitlin Price were selected as the Juror's Choice Award Winners. Pictured above is Jordan Swartz's San Francisco.

Selected by Visual Arts Curator Cynthia Connolly

Photo 11 exhibiting photographer Roberto Bocci's Travel Animation video illustrates his view that travel is an "invaluable opportunity to acquire images and creates a link between different geographic locations...While traveling I shoot hundreds of photos that are compressed into animations that record the distance in between two map locations (A and B) and the temporal/physical space that separates them....In the travel strip panoramas and the traveller-thinker series, select images are extracted from the animations and compiled in a horizontal film strip format or as single frames."

What inspires you as an artist and curator? I am always excited by work that is personal, thoughtful, and concerned with humanity in either abstract or concrete ways.
If you could own any piece of art what would it be? I love photo books of all varieties, so I would say that I'd like to have a more extensive library of them.
What's your favorite art publications/websites/blogs? Errol Morris' articles on photography in the NY Times are fantastic reads. I can't wait for his forthcoming book on photography.
What book are you reading?   I am currently reading Bill Buford's Among the Thugs, an excellent commentary on English football culture.
